Plot
Shy is set in a world where superpowered individuals, known as “Heroes”, emerged after a third World War that threatened to destroy humanity. The Heroes used their powers to end the conflict and usher in a new era of relative peace. Among those Heroes, Japan is represented by a timid young girl named Ai Tennoji, who has the power to transform into a superheroine named Shy. However, Ai is not confident in her abilities and often worries about her shortcomings. She also has to deal with her normal life as a high school student, her feelings for her childhood friend Ryohei, and her admiration for her idol Inori.
However, Ai’s life changes when she encounters Utsuro Karakururi, the leader of the Amarariruku, a group of superpowered individuals who oppose the world order and seek to create a new one. Utsuro claims to be Ai’s “destined partner” and tries to persuade her to join his cause. He also reveals that he knows the truth about Ai’s past and her power, which is connected to a mysterious phenomenon known as the “Shy Syndrome”.
Ai soon finds herself in the middle of a war between the Amarariruku and the WPO, a global organization that monitors and controls the Heroes. She also discovers that some of her classmates, such as Kento and Shizuka, are members of the Amarariruku and have their powers and motives. Ai has to decide whether to trust Utsuro or to fight against him, while also trying to find her own identity and purpose as Shy.
