When Will Inside Out 2 Be On Disney Plus? Release Date, Cast, Plot, And New Updates

Inside Out 2: Disney and Pixar are bringing back one of their most beloved and acclaimed animated films, Inside Out, for a sequel that promises to explore new emotions and challenges for the protagonist, Riley. Inside Out 2 is set to hit theaters in June 2024, but when will it be available to stream on Disney Plus? Here’s everything we know so far about the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2015 Oscar-winning masterpiece.
Inside Out 2 Release Date
Inside Out 2 was announced in September 2022 during the D23 Expo, where Amy Poehler, who voices Joy, joined director Pete Docter on stage to reveal the sequel. The film was given a release date of June 14, 2024, almost exactly nine years after the original film debuted on June 19, 2015.
However, the release date could be subject to change, as the film’s production was reportedly affected by the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood, which began in late 2023. The strikes have caused delays and disruptions for many film and TV projects, and Inside Out 2 could be one of them. Hopefully, the labor disputes will be resolved soon and the film will be able to meet its scheduled release date i.e. June 2024.

The sequel will feature the return of most of the original cast members, as well as some new additions. Here’s the full list of confirmed voice actors and their characters:

Plot
The official synopsis of the film, released by Disney and Pixar, reads as follows:
Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.
The film will explore how Riley’s emotions cope with the changes and challenges of adolescence, as well as the arrival of new emotions that reflect her growing complexity and maturity. The film will also introduce new locations and characters within Riley’s mind, such as the Dream Factory, the Memory Bank, and the Personality Islands.
The film’s director, Kelsey Mann, who previously worked as a story supervisor on the first film, said that he wanted to expand on the idea of having more than five emotions, which was originally pitched by Pete Docter during the production of the first film. He said that he wanted to create a “truthful” worldbuilding that reflects the reality of human psychology and emotion.

When Will Inside Out 2 Be On Disney Plus?
Disney Plus is the exclusive streaming home for all Disney and Pixar films, as well as other content from Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more. The streaming service offers a vast library of movies and shows, as well as original content that is only available on the platform.
However, this anime will not be available on Disney Plus right away, as it will have an exclusive theatrical run first. This means that the film will only be shown in cinemas for a certain period of time, before it becomes available to stream on Disney Plus.
The exact duration of the theatrical window is not yet confirmed, as it may vary depending on the film’s performance and demand. However, based on previous Disney and Pixar films, such as Soul, Luca, and Encanto, it is likely that Inside Out 2 will be on Disney Plus within three to six months after its theatrical release.
This means that Inside Out 2 could be on Disney Plus as early as September 2024, or as late as December 2024. Of course, this is subject to change, depending on the film’s release date and other factors.
