Plot
The plot of Lessons In Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant chemist who dreams of making groundbreaking discoveries and changing the world with science. However, her ambitions are thwarted by the sexism and discrimination she faces in the 1950s, as well as her personal struggles with being a single mother and having a complicated relationship with her ex-lover and former boss, Dr. Robert Donatti.

When Elizabeth is fired from her lab, she gets an unexpected opportunity to host a TV cooking show called Supper at Six, where she uses her knowledge of chemistry to teach housewives how to make delicious and nutritious meals. Along the way, she meets Calvin Evans, a mysterious and handsome cameraman who has a secret connection to her past, and Fran Frask, a savvy and supportive producer who helps her navigate the TV industry.
Elizabeth soon realizes that her show is more than just a cooking show, but a platform to educate and empower women, as well as to challenge the social norms and prejudices of the time. She also discovers that her passion for science is not lost, but rather rekindled, as she continues to pursue her research and experiments with the help of her mentor, Dr. Leland Mason, and her colleagues, Walter Pine and Boryweitz.
However, Elizabeth’s success and popularity also attract enemies and obstacles, such as Phil Lebensmal, a greedy and misogynistic TV executive who tries to exploit her fame and control her show, and Dr. Price, a rival scientist who competes with her for a prestigious award and accuses her of plagiarism, and Reverend Wakely, a charismatic and influential preacher who opposes her show and her best friend Harriet Sloane’s campaign for city council.
As the season progresses, Elizabeth faces various challenges and dilemmas, such as balancing her career and motherhood, dealing with her feelings for Calvin and Donatti, coping with the secrets and lies that surround her, and fighting for her rights and values in a hostile and changing world.
