When Will Mr. Mercedes Season 4 Come Out? Release Date, Cast, Plot, Spoilers, and more

Mr. Mercedes Season 4: Mr. Mercedes is a crime thriller series based on the bestselling novels by Stephen King, featuring a retired detective and his nemesis, a brilliant and twisted serial killer. The series has been praised by critics and fans alike for its gripping story, stellar performances, and faithful adaptation of King’s books. But will there be a fourth season of Mr Mercedes? And if so, when can we expect it to premiere? Here is everything we know so far.
The current status of Mr. Mercedes Season 4
The first three seasons of Mr Mercedes aired on Audience Network, a channel owned by AT&T, from 2017 to 2019. However, in May 2020, the channel ceased operations and discontinued all of its original programming, leaving the fate of Mr Mercedes uncertain. The show’s creator and executive producer, David E. Kelley, said in an interview that he was hopeful that the series would find a new home, as he had plans for a fourth season that would explore the aftermath of the events of the third season finale.

Fortunately, in September 2020, Peacock, the streaming service of NBCUniversal, announced that it had acquired the rights to stream the existing three seasons of Mr Mercedes, with the first two seasons becoming available on October 15, 2020, and the third season arriving at a later date. This was good news for the fans of the show, as it meant that more people could discover and enjoy the series and that there was a possibility of a fourth season being produced by Peacock.
However, as of February 2021, there has been no official confirmation or announcement from Peacock or the show’s producers regarding the renewal or cancellation of Mr Mercedes. They may be waiting to see how the show performs on the streaming platform, and how much demand there is for a fourth season, before making a decision. It is also possible that they are facing some challenges in securing the rights to the fourth book in King’s series, The Outsider, which was adapted into a separate HBO series in 2020. Therefore, the current status of Mr. Mercedes Season 4 is unknown, and fans will have to wait patiently for any updates.
The potential Release Date
If Mr Mercedes is renewed for a fourth season, it will likely take some time before it is ready to premiere, given the production delays and complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Assuming that the show gets the green light in 2021 and that it follows a similar production schedule as the previous seasons, we can expect Mr. Mercedes Season 4 to premiere sometime in December 2024.

Plot
The plot of Mr Mercedes Season 4 will also depend on the source material that the show will adapt. The first season of the show was based on the first book in King’s series, Mr. Mercedes, which introduced the characters of Bill Hodges, a retired detective who is haunted by an unsolved case of a mass murder committed by a man driving a stolen Mercedes, and Brady Hartsfield, the psychopathic killer who taunts and torments Hodges with his plans for another attack.
The second season of the show was based on the third book in the series, End of Watch, which saw Hodges and his allies trying to stop Hartsfield, who had developed telekinetic and mind-control abilities after surviving a head injury, from killing hundreds of people through a computer game. The third season of the show was based on the second book in the series, Finders Keepers, which focused on a different case involving a famous author, his obsessed fan, and a stolen manuscript, while also continuing the story of Hodges and Hartsfield.
The fourth book in the series, The Outsider, which was published in 2018, follows Holly Gibney, who is now working as a private investigator, as she tries to solve a baffling murder case that involves a supernatural entity that can shape-shift and feed on the grief and pain of its victims.
However, as mentioned earlier, this book has already been adapted into a separate HBO series, which starred Ben Mendelsohn as Ralph Anderson, a detective who teams up with Holly, played by Cynthia Erivo, to catch the killer.
The HBO series also featured some references and connections to the Mr. Mercedes series, such as the mention of Bill Hodges and Brady Hartsfield, and the appearance of Lou Linklater played by Kelly Lynch. Therefore, it is unclear whether Mr Mercedes Season 4 will follow the same plot as The Outsider, or whether it will diverge from the book and create its own original story.
