Trigger Point Season 1 spoiler

What happened at the end of season 1?

Trigger Point Season 1 ends with a shocking twist, as the mastermind behind the bombings is revealed to be Karl Maguire, Lana’s ex-boyfriend and former bomb disposal colleague. Karl was the sole survivor of a botched mission in Afghanistan, where a convoy of soldiers carrying a new type of explosive was ambushed and killed by insurgents.

A rocket hit the explosives, causing a massive blast that also destroyed a nearby school and village. Karl blamed the incident on Ayesha Campbell-Khan, a local MP who was running for re-election in London. Karl joined a far-right terrorist group called The Crusaders, and orchestrated a series of bombings to target Ayesha and anyone who supported her. He also used his knowledge of bomb disposal to leave clues and codes that only Lana could decipher, leading her to him.

He also killed Lana’s brother Billy, who was a former soldier and a friend of Karl’s, to make Lana suffer. In the final episode, Karl kidnaps Lana and takes her to a hotel, where he reveals his plan to blow up Ayesha and himself with a suicide vest.

He tries to convince Lana to join him, but she refuses. She manages to escape and alert Joel and the police, who arrive at the hotel and evacuate the guests. Lana confronts Karl in his room, and tries to talk him out of his suicide. Karl tells her that he loves her, and that he wants to die with her. He activates the vest, but Lana shoots him in the head, killing him and stopping the detonation.

Trigger Point Season 1 is a well-made and well-acted crime thriller that explores the themes of terrorism, trauma, and trust.
