Spoiler
In the first season of XO, Kitty ended with a lot of cliffhangers and unanswered questions. Kitty breaks up with Dae after finding out that he kissed Yuri, who had been scheming to ruin Kitty’s relationship. Kitty also discovered that Q’s boyfriend, Simon, had been cheating on him with Yuri, and decided to tell Q the truth. Meanwhile, Kitty’s older sister, Lara Jean, visited her in Seoul and gave her some advice on love and life.
The second season will likely pick up from where the first season left off, and explore the consequences of Kitty’s actions and decisions. Will Kitty and Dae get back together, or will Kitty find a new love interest? Will Q forgive Simon, or will he dump him for good? Will Kitty return to KISS, the school she was expelled from after Yuri made a case on her behalf to her mother – the school’s director? And who is the mysterious person who sent Kitty a letter at the end of the season finale?
Co-showrunner Jenny Han, who also created, wrote, and produced the To All the Boys film franchise, said that she wanted to show Kitty’s growth and evolution as a character, and challenge the conventional notion of romance and happily ever after.

“I write so many romantic stories about young people. Everyone wants the ‘happily ever after’ and to feel like two people are together forever – but they are young,” Han told Tudum in March. “What was exciting about Kitty’s story [is] that it shows you can explore different people for different times of your life.”
Han added that first loves like Dae, “don’t mean they are less meaningful or that you didn’t love them,”. “It means that they were the love you needed at that time in your life. And then maybe it helps you to move on.”
