Mehul Choksi Missing: CBI Contacted Interpol After Fugitive Diamantaire Flees From Antigua
New Delhi – Central Bureau of Investigation has approached Interpol and other government channels to trace to locate and find out where Mehul Choksi is. That’s the latest that is coming in CBI sources indicating that they have approached Interpol now and government channels to trace Mehul Choksi.
Nobody knows where he is, he needs to be located found out traced. And now the CBI sources are indicating that Interpol as well has been roped in. And this changes the lay of the land as far as the extradition of Mehul Choksi back to India, and the conversations that are going on between India and Antigua are concerned.
The Central Bureau of Investigation along with the enforcement record, I spoke with the officials of both the agencies and what they believe that this theory of Mehul Choksi gone missing, it is not true. And if you go by the sequence of events, when the crime was being committed in the Punjab National Bank rupees 1300 crores with siphoned off by Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi.
Even then, Mehul Choksi had secured citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda. Later on in 2018. He moved to the USA, but if any, then, the agencies wanted to move and extradition paperwork, but before that, he moved to Antigua. And again, it was a case where the Antigua authorities were initially not very cooperative with the Indian agencies when India started mounting pressure, there were cases against extradition cases against Mehul Choksi then he might have fled to Cuba.
According to a local media report from Antigua, there is a personal associate of Mehul Choksi, who has been quoted as saying that Mehul Choksi might have gone to Cuba. He owns a residence there. And he also has citizenship in another Caribbean country. And if you go by the extradition treaty, India has no extradition treaty with Cuba. So, Mehul Choksi was aware that maybe someday he might have to be extradited to India, and maybe to avoid that he might have possibly gone to Cuba as far as the official authorities in Antigua.
The Interpol has been contacted, CBI dials Interpol that is what the sources are indicating to trace where Mehul Choksi is, has he fled to Cuba? That’s the big question given that India does not have an extradition treaty with Cuba.
