Supreme Court Strikes Down Marathas Reservation in Education & Jobs

New Delhi, May 5, 2021 – Supreme Court has struck down a reservation for the Maratha community in the education jobs exceeding 50%. Supreme Court also made it clear in Judgment that people from the Marathas community cannot be declared as educationally and socially backward community to bring them within the reserved category.
This is the latest that we are tracking right now. It’s a big development that the Supreme Court has struck down the reservation of the Maratha community, which exceeded 50% in education and jobs. Supreme Court has dragged down reservation of 50% for Marathas. Supreme Court also made it clear in its judgment that people from the Maratha community cannot be declared as educationally and socially backward communities to bring them within the reserved category.

This is of course the latest that we are tracking right now where the Supreme Court has struck down the reservation of Maratha community in education and jobs over 50% Supreme Court also mentioned that the Maratha community cannot be included in the Backward Classes.
And they cannot be brought down within the reserved category and hence, their reservation, which was over 50% in education and jobs has been struck down by the Supreme Court. Supreme Court strikes down the Maratha quota and has termed it unconstitutional.
