However, Jamshed and his wife Nazia Dasti faced a tragic incident in 2020, when their son, who was only 6 years old, died in a road accident. Their son was traveling with his maternal uncle in a car, when a speeding truck hit their vehicle near Kot Addu, a town in Muzaffargarh district. Their son sustained serious injuries, and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. Dasti and his spouse Nazia were devastated by the loss of their son, and expressed their grief and sorrow on social media. They also received condolences and sympathy from their friends, family, and supporters, as well as from other politicians and celebrities.

Jamshed and his wife Nazia Dasti have tried to cope with their tragedy, and have focused on their daughter, who is their only surviving child. They have also continued their political and social work, and have vowed to serve the people of their constituency and the country. They have also thanked God for the blessings and the trials that He has given them, and have prayed for the forgiveness and the peace of their son’s soul.
Political Career and Controversies
Jamshed Dasti entered politics in 2008, when he was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan on the ticket of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from NA-178 Muzaffargarh-III. He was a loyal supporter of the late Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister and the leader of PPP, and was considered a close aide of her husband and successor, Asif Ali Zardari. He was also a vocal critic of the then President Pervez Musharraf, and participated in the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of democracy and judiciary in Pakistan.
However, his political career was soon marred by controversies and scandals. In 2010, he resigned from the National Assembly after his graduation degree was found to be fake by the Supreme Court. He was also accused of rigging the 2008 election, and of being involved in a murder case. He managed to get re-elected in a by-election in 2010, but quit PPP in 2012, citing differences with the party leadership. He then joined the Pakistan Muslim League (N), the main opposition party at the time, but left it shortly before the 2013 general election. He contested the election as an independent candidate, and won two seats in the National Assembly from NA-177 Muzaffargarh-II and NA-178 Muzaffargarh-III.

During his tenure as an independent lawmaker, Jamshed gained popularity among the masses for his populist and outspoken stance on various issues. He often raised his voice for the rights of the poor, the farmers, and the minorities. He also exposed the corruption and malpractices of the government and the bureaucracy. He was known for his unconventional and dramatic ways of protest, such as staging a hunger strike, breaking the locks of a water canal, and riding a donkey cart to the parliament. He also faced several legal cases and arrests, including charges of terrorism, kidnapping, robbery, and assault. He claimed that these cases were politically motivated and fabricated to silence him.
In 2018, Dasti formed his own political party, Awami Raj Party, and contested the general election from NA-182 Muzaffargarh-II. He lost the election to Mehr Irshad Ahmed Sial, a candidate of PPP. He alleged that the election was rigged and that he was subjected to harassment and intimidation by the authorities. He also accused the PTI, the party that emerged as the winner of the election, of being involved in the rigging. He filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan, seeking a recount and re-polling in his constituency, but his petition was dismissed.
In 2023, Jamshed Dasti surprised everyone by joining the PTI, the party he had previously criticized and opposed. He met with Imran Khan, the Prime Minister and the chairman of PTI, and announced his decision to merge his party with PTI. He said that he was impressed by the vision and policies of Imran Khan, and that he wanted to work for the welfare of the people under his leadership. He also expressed his hope that Imran Khan would address the issues of Muzaffargarh and Punjab, and bring development and prosperity to the region. He is currently running for a seat in the Provincial Assembly from PP-274 Muzaffargarh-VII as a candidate of PTI in the 2024 Punjab provincial election.
