Shashi Tharoor’s Justification on British Parliament Debate On-Farm Laws Results in Controversy

Congress’s Shashi Tharoor responded to the controversy by justifying that the British Parliament can discuss issues like farm laws, just like the Indian Parliament holds a debate on domestic issues of a foreign country. Tharoor said that he doesn’t blame the government of India for doing its job or speaking up for its point of view.

He further added that but we must recognize there is another point of view and that democracies’ elected representatives are free to air their point of view. In his speech, he also added that India has asked the British agent over the unwarranted review of farm protests.

Shashi Tharoor clearly mentioned that in democracies you’re free to discuss whatever you will in your parliamentary rules are prepared to discuss. He told that just as in India can discuss these Palestine issues as we have done all we can discuss if we so choose any other domestic issue or a foreign country. He concluded by saying that the British Parliament ar entitled to do the same.

The reference which Sashi Tharoor as a former Deputy Minister of External Affairs, and also longtime representative in the UN has indeed, of Palestine and Israel issue was during the UPA era. Now, for the past almost six and a half to seven years the Indian government has refrained from meddling in the internal affairs of other countries.

That is the reason why the Indian government takes this very seriously when there is an internal issue of India discussed in some other Parliament as it happened recently in the British Parliament. Over which the government of India took a strong exception their envoy was summoned and clearly told in no unequal terms, that this is not acceptable to the government of India, the farm laws, protests and agitation which is going on for almost three months is an internal issue.

The Indian government said that British Parliament should have no business discussing it. So in the government of India has taken this at an appropriate level. What Shashi Tharoor is referring to is that the parliaments are free to discuss any issue across the world. Whenever the parliamentarians, the MPs, the representatives of the people, feel right so.

The BJP always says that this statement of this nature would be giving a green signal really to external interference in India’s internal affairs.
