Social Media Giants Agree To Comply With India’s IT Rules 2021 Move Amid Ban Fear

New Delhi – Now social media giants like Facebook and Google, as well as WhatsApp have finally agreed to comply with the Indian government’s new IT rules 2021. And as per the guidelines, these companies have announced to appoint statutory officers, which was a mandate under the IT, that is intermediary guidelines and digital media ethics rule.
This came about in 2001. And according to a report all three along with Koo and Sharechat, Telegram as well as LinkedIn have submitted the names for these nodal officers, to the concerned authorities, but Twitter hasn’t yet sent details of the media officers who will be from India. So the problem arose when Twitter gave names of these nodal officers who were of course from their base nations, but the government said that these officers must be appointed only from India.
Now the future of several top media social media platforms has come under contention after the government sources revealed that these tech giants owing these platforms have failed to comply with India’s new social media rules, which rolled out in February 2021. Big names such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have failed to meet certain deadlines under the center’s new IT rules.
This has led to several questioning whether they can be an Instagram ban or Facebook or Twitter banned in India. That’s the big question now is Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, are they still going to function in India?
Really to understand that every social media giant is most welcome in India to operate their operations, but they have to abide by the law of the land. And in this India has made pretty clear to all the social media giants that we will have over a set of rules and everybody will have to follow that.
In recent days, we have seen that Facebook, Google, Whatsapp all other social media giants have now started complying through the Indian IT act. And which will make a way for citizens to go and complain that if something goes wrong, today, you see there is a very opaque mechanism of a grievance redressal system and all of these social media giants where people can just fill up a form if they are facing sexual abuse or harassment or any other kind of defamation.
And nobody knows where this complaint goes, and whether this social media will ever respond to them. But they will have a grievance nodal officer now they will have an officer who will be responsible to act on all government questionnaires that comes in and they just cannot take away their liability just by saying that you know, we will see who will get back to you.
So these rules are specific, these rules are setting up in the interest of all the Indians, that yes, they should have a window where we can approach. If you see the latest controversy by Twitter, they are just playing the hardball game by not complying with the rules and I am sure the government will take necessary action if not complied by within the time.
People need to understand no company across the world can deny India as a market, India is a huge potential and huge market for all of them. They have to comply with the rules because the record has been straight by the Government of India, and they have been told that they have to comply, they have to work on our land. The law of the land will apply to all of them. So they have to they have no other option left for them.
