Is The US Lawyer Sonia Sotomayor Still Alive? Death Hoax & Health Updates

Sonia Sotomayor is a US lawyer and the first Latina to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. She was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009 and has been a prominent voice on the bench ever since. However, in recent years, she has also been the target of some false and malicious rumors about her health and death.

The Death Hoax

In March 2022, a website called Real Raw News published an article claiming that Sonia Sotomayor was sentenced to death by a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay for treason and betraying her oath to uphold the Constitution. The article alleged that she was hanged by the neck until dead on March 29, 2022.

The article was completely fabricated and had no basis in reality. Real Raw News is a self-described satirical website that publishes fake news stories for entertainment purposes. It has a disclaimer on its website that states: “Information on this website is for informational and educational and entertainment purposes. This website contains humor, parody, and satire. We have included this disclaimer for our protection, on the advice on legal counsel.”

The website has a history of spreading false and sensational claims about various public figures, especially those who are opposed to former President Donald Trump. For example, it has also been reported that Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, and William Barr were executed at Guantanamo Bay, which are all untrue.

The death hoax about Sonia Sotomayor was quickly debunked by fact-checkers and media outlets. Lead Stories, a fact-checking website, contacted the Pentagon and confirmed that the claim was false. There was also no media coverage or official statement about her being sent to Guantanamo Bay or being executed.

Sotomayor is still alive and well as of February 20, 2024. She continues to serve as a Supreme Court Justice and participate in the court’s oral arguments and decisions.
