Controversy and Legal Issues

Achsanul Qosasi is currently facing a corruption allegation in relation to a project to construct BTS for 4G internet in remote areas of Indonesia, which was led by the Kominfo. The project, which was worth Rp 21.6 trillion ($1.5 billion), was allegedly marred by irregularities and collusion that caused a state loss of Rp 8 trillion ($560 million).

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) named Achsanul as a suspect in the case on 3 November 2023, after interrogating him as a witness. He is accused of accepting Rp 40 billion ($2.8 million) from the project contractors in exchange for issuing a favorable audit report on the project. He is also suspected of influencing the selection of the contractors and the determination of the project locations.

Achsanul Qosasi controversy

The AGO detained Qosasi after naming him as a suspect. He was taken to the detention facility after undergoing a medical examination. He is the first BPK member to be arrested for corruption since the establishment of the institution in 1950.

Qosasi has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that he was a victim of a political conspiracy. He said that he had performed his duties as an auditor professionally and independently. He also said that he had consulted with the AGO during the preliminary investigation into the case.

The case has sparked public outrage and raised questions about the integrity and independence of the BPK, which is supposed to be the guardian of the state finances. It has also tarnished the reputation of the PKPI, which is a member of the ruling coalition that supports President Joko Widodo
