Daljit Singh Chaudhary joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1990, after clearing the Civil Services Examination. He was allotted the Uttar Pradesh cadre and underwent training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. He started his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Meerut and then served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, such as Bijnor, Etah, Muzaffarnagar, and Lucknow. He also served as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in Kanpur and Allahabad ranges.
He was deputed to the central government in 2005 and joined the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as an Inspector General (IG).
