She came into the limelight after she became the rape victim of well-known boxer Mike Tyson aka Michael Gerard Tyson. He is considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of his time. According to the reports, then 18 years old Desiree was raped by Mike Tyson in an Indianapolis hotel’s room on July 19, 1991. Tyson was arrested by police after someday and was presented in the Marion County superior court from January 26- February 10, 1992.
After the incident Washington’s condition was consistently going down, Tyson claimed that the things happened with Desiree’s full consent, as she wanted to have sex with him.
Later he denied all this and admitted that he forced himself on her and also mislead her to have sex with him. However, Mike found guilty in the case on February 10, 1992, and got the sentence to prison for 6 years, along with years of probation on March 26, 1992.
After that, he was sent to Indiana Youth Center in April 1992, because he was just 25 years old at the time of the crime, and got released in March 1995. Tyson also registers under federal law as a sex offender. Although Mike spent only three years in prison, just because of his good behavior and wealth he released earlier on parole.
