Farrah was diagnosed with Primary Immune Deficiency Disorder (PIDD) when she was five years old. PIDD is a rare genetic disorder that causes the immune system to attack its organs, mainly the lungs. This leads to chronic lung infections, inflammation, scarring, breathing problems, growth stuntedness, fatigue, fever, weight loss, or gain depending on which organs are affected by the disease.

Farrah suffered from PIDD for most of her childhood due to her previous immune system attacking her organs since she was two years old. She had to undergo monthly immunoglobulin replacement therapy to temporarily boost her immune system’s ability to make antibodies. However, these treatments never really worked long-term for her.
In 2014, Farrah enrolled in an NIH clinical study to try to identify the gene that might be responsible for her immune problems. However, the study took longer than expected and had to stop right away due to some complications.
In 2017, Farrah received a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor through the National Marrow Donor Program “Be The Match”. This procedure replaced her faulty immune system with a healthy one from another person who matched her tissue type. The transplant gave Farrah a new life that provided her with a great chance at being healthy as a teenager and throughout her life.
