Kent was a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He grew up at a simple house near Central Avenue and Thomas Road, now the site of the historic Willo District. He remained there throughout his life and died at his home in Phoenix. Following his father, Joe Dana also started learning and following journalism at a young age.
His father worked as a TV personality from the early ’30s to the ’50s. After completing his schooling and college started working at KSAZ news. He completed his schooling at West High School in 1960 and then college at Arizona State University. After two years at Arizona state university, Kent Dana got transferred to Brigham Young University to study broadcast journalism
When he was 12 years old he acted in one theatres show ‘Happy Time’ of Phoenix Little Theatres. When he performed he stole the show and become the star of that show. News related to this show was also published in Arizona Republic Newspaper in which Kent’s name was on the top of the list of stars of the play. he also won the award of Best Child Actor during his period with Phoenix Little Theatre.
In his teenage age, he has also worked as a Donut seller and a paperboy for The Arizona Republic. In summers he also worked as a construction worker of homes. In the 5th year of his age, he competed in the Mr. Little Arizona pageant and won the title.
