Sabiu Yusuf age

Sabiu Yusuf was born in 1985 (age: 38 years, as of 2023) in Daura, Katsina State, Nigeria. He is the youngest of four children of Hajia Halima and Alhaji Yusuf, a wealthy businessman and politician. He belongs to the Fulani ethnic group and practices Islam as his religion. He attended Government Secondary School, Daura, and later graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a degree in Business Administration. He also holds a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of London.

Career and Politics

Sabiu Yusuf started his career as a personal assistant to his uncle, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015, when Buhari became the president of Nigeria. He was responsible for handling Buhari’s domestic affairs, such as scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, and liaising with other government officials. He quickly rose to prominence as one of Buhari’s most trusted and loyal aides, earning him the nickname “Tunde” after Buhari’s late chief of staff, Abba Kyari.

Sabiu Yusuf was also involved in several business ventures, such as oil and gas, telecommunications, real estate, and agriculture. He was said to have amassed a fortune from his connections and influence in the government, as well as from his family’s wealth. He was accused of corruption, nepotism, and abuse of power by many critics, who claimed that he used his position to enrich himself and his cronies at the expense of the public interest.

In 2023, he was appointed as an assistant director at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria’s external intelligence outfit, by his uncle, Buhari. This was a controversial move, as Yusuf had no prior experience or qualification in intelligence matters, and was seen as a way of Buhari consolidating his grip on power. He was also posted to the United Kingdom as the NIA’s representative, where he reportedly continued to run his businesses and political activities.

Sabiu was also rumored to be eyeing the presidency in 2027, as he was said to have the backing of his uncle, Buhari, and other powerful figures in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party. He was also said to have a strong network of supporters and loyalists across the country, especially in the northern region, where he hailed from. However, he faced stiff opposition from other aspirants, such as former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who challenged his legitimacy and credibility.

Buhari’s Former Aide Accused of Ordering Naira Redesign Without Approval

A former personal assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Sabiu Yusuf, has been alleged to have given a directive to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to redesign the naira notes without the consent of the CBN board or the National Assembly. This was revealed by a special investigator of the CBN, who spoke to the media on the condition of anonymity.

According to the investigator, Sabiu, who is also Buhari’s nephew, used his influence and access to the presidency to approve the naira redesign policy, which was supposed to be a secret project. He said that Yusuf also committed other financial crimes, such as mismanaging funds and contracts at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), where he was a board member.

The investigator said that the naira redesign policy was initiated by Emefiele in 2019, with the aim of improving the security and durability of the naira notes, as well as reducing the cost of printing and maintaining them. He said that the policy involved changing the color, size, and features of the naira notes, as well as introducing new denominations of N2,000 and N5,000.

He said that the policy was supposed to be approved by the CBN board, the National Assembly, and the president before it could be implemented. However, he said that Yusuf bypassed the due process and gave Emefiele the green light to go ahead with the policy, without consulting or informing anyone else.

He said that Yusuf also instructed Emefiele to award the contract for the printing of the new naira notes to a foreign company, in which he had a personal interest. He said that the contract was worth over N500 billion and that Sabiu received a huge kickback from the deal.

He said that the policy was a waste of public funds and a violation of the law, as it did not follow the proper procedure and did not have the approval of the relevant authorities. He said that Yusuf and Emefiele should be held accountable for their actions and that they should face the full wrath of the law.

He said that he decided to expose the scandal because he was concerned about the integrity and stability of the naira, as well as the transparency and accountability of the CBN and the presidency. He said that he hoped that his revelation would trigger an investigation and a prosecution of the culprits and that justice would be served.
