Biography

T Ravikanth was born on 15th June 1973 (age: 50 years, as of 2023) in Hyderabad, Telangana. He completed his schooling at St. Paul’s High School, Hyderabad, and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad, in 1995. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, which he obtained in 1997.
Ravikanth was always interested in public service and civil administration. He decided to join the IAS after completing his MBA and cleared the prestigious Civil Services Examination on his first attempt in 1997. He was allotted the Rajasthan cadre and joined the service in 1998.

Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma picks T Ravikanth as his secretary
In a swift move, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who took oath on Friday, appointed three senior IAS officers to his office. Among them, T Ravikanth, a 1998 batch officer, has been chosen as the personal secretary to the chief minister. He will also hold the additional charge of the principal secretary of the urban development and housing department and the local self-government department.
Ravikanth is currently the principal secretary of the medical education department and has been handling the COVID-19 situation in the state. He has also been instrumental in implementing the Bhamashah Yojana, a flagship scheme of the state government that provides cashless health insurance and financial inclusion to the poor and vulnerable sections of society.
He has a rich experience in various sectors, especially in the power and health sectors. He has also served as the secretary of the energy department, the chairman and managing director of the Rajasthan State Electricity Board, the chairman and managing director of the Rajasthan State Power Transmission Corporation Limited, the chairman and managing director of the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited, the secretary of border management in the ministry of home affairs, the joint secretary of agriculture and cooperation in the ministry of agriculture, and the principal secretary of the finance department.

Career and Achievements

T Ravikanth began his career as an Assistant Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Jodhpur district, where he handled various aspects of land revenue administration, law and order, disaster management, and rural development. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zila Parishad, Jodhpur, where he supervised the implementation of various schemes and programs for rural development, poverty alleviation, and social welfare.
In 2001, he was posted as the District Collector and District Magistrate (DM) of Jaisalmer district, where he was responsible for the overall administration, development, and security of the border district. He initiated several measures to improve the delivery of public services, promote tourism, conserve the environment, and empower the local communities. He also played a key role in the successful conduct of the Indo-Pak border fencing project, which enhanced the security and stability of the region.
