Taliban Blocks Airport Access For Afghans, Urges People Not to Leave Country
Kabul – Taliban has said that the group will not allow Afghan nationals to leave the country and opposes any extension of evacuation flights. The development comes one week before US And coalition forces are slated to depart Afghanistan. Well, this is the latest coming in as far as the Afghanistan crisis is concerned. And now, the Taliban have warned that they will not extend the August 31 deadline, which has been announced by the Biden administration for withdrawal of all American troops from Afghanistan and urged that the US should evacuate by the 31st of August.
This is horrendous because, it means it stops the Afghans as it is they are expecting that life under the Taliban is going to be very difficult, very problematic. The Taliban, whether it is for men or women, it is going to curtail their freedoms, the Human Rights will not be respected. There’s going to be no democracy, they are going to live under the threat of the gun all the time.
And at least so far, they have been saying that those who want to leave, can leave and they will not stop anyone. But increasingly, it has been evident that they are not allowing the Afghans to leave even the Hindu and Sikh Afghans who wanted to come out of the country, they were also stopped, they were also turned back.
And now that they have made this announcement, it’s going to create a lot of problems for the people who are there. And as it is they earlier said that they’re going to be a large number of refugees who are going to be streaming out of Afghanistan, but with their land borders, blocked, and their air travel also now restricted and completely denied to them.
I think this is going to be a very serious blow on the psyche, and the minds of the Afghans who are there. So I think the international community should take up this issue. Because it’s against the fundamental rights of people. Unless, of course, there is something against them, they can be stopped, but not a carte blanche, that Afghan will not be allowed to travel outside the country.
I think this will be a terrible blow for the Afghans, most of the Afghans who are finding it difficult already and want to move out, and particularly those who have worked with foreign troops, foreign forces, foreign governments, like the Americans like NATO. So they have been wanting to leave, and this part will be completely stopped. So this is going to be very difficult for the people in Afghanistan.
